Kei Nishikori has tipped the recently-dethroned World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to return to the top ‘stronger than ever’.

Djokovic, who played out one of the best seasons last year, visibly ran out of steam – especially in the second half of the year – as he failed to return title-less in his last four tournaments.

His dip in form coincided with Andy Murray’s rise to the top, as a result of which, the latter ended Djokovic’s long-standing streak as the world’s best-ranked player.

Despite that, Nishikori – the current World No. 5 – insists that Djokovic will fix the issues sooner than later.

“Novak will return to the top in the future and certainly stronger than ever,” the Japanese superstar said.

He added: “In recent months may not have played at their best, but I believe it will recover. It will be a very interesting next year to keep up with Andy and he in the fight.”

Meanwhile, Nishikori has been drawn in ‘Group John McEnroe’ alongside Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Marin Cilic in the ATP World Tour Finals that begin on Sunday.

Their competitors in ‘Group Ivan Lendl’ include Djokovic, Milos Raonic, Dominic Thiem and Gael Monfils.
