World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who pulled out of this week’s China Open in Beijing, has confirmed his return for the Shanghai Masters next week.

“I am on an active vacation now and the Shanghai Masters is the next tournament,” Djokovic announced during a press conference, as quoted by Reuters.

The 29-year-old has been recovering from an elbow injury, and is yet to play a match since losing the US Open final to Stanislas Wawrinka last month.

Talking about the injury concerns, the Serb insisted that although it’s the nature of the injury is minor, it could well develop to be a chronic issue.

He said: “It’s a micro injury but its nature is such that it could develop into a long-term issue. I am close to being fully fit but the injury is still affecting my serve.”

Djokovic, who triumphed in Shanghai last year, will begin as one of the heavy favourites when the Masters 1000 event gets underway on October 9.
