As an 18-year-old young man, who was yet to come into the bona fide limelight, Nick Kyrgios did what not many could do. A win over 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal on the celebrated courts of SW19, can somebody ask for more?

Yes, the Melbourne-resident pulled off the biggest triumph of his career, when he stunned the fancied Spaniard in 4 sets at the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year.

“That was probably my favourite match of the year. That was an unbelievable atmosphere and I will never forget it,” Kyrgios was quoted as saying by The Age.

“Ever since then it’s given me the motivation to keep going and be the best I can, because the whole nation was behind me,” he continued of his 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 win. “It was an experience. I couldn’t help the fact my body couldn’t take any more that day, but I was only 18 then.

“I’ve grown a lot since then and played a lot of best-of-five matches since as well. I think I’ve matured.”

Kyrgios, who is currently gearing up for the 2015 season, is slated to represent Australia at the Hopman Cup in January next month.
