Alexander Zverev’s wretched run in 2019 continued after he crashed out of the BMW Open in Munich. The world No. 3 lost 6-4 5-7 7-5 to lower-ranked Chilean Christian Garin in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Zverev, who now holds a dismal 16-9 record this season, opened up on the bad phase in the post-match press conference.

“Everything is going badly, everything against me. Last year I won all these balanced matches and this year I’m losing all. That is the problem,” the 22-year-old was quoted as saying.

Zverev’s words perhaps prompted one journalist to question if a string of winless tournaments was a result of problem of unwillingness.

He, however, appeared unhappy with the question popping out as all he said was “next question.”

Recently, it came out that Zverev’s been struggling with issues off the court, with his father and coach being unwell. To make things worse, he reportedly broke up with his girlfriend during the same time.

Zverev will look to work out the flaws before his next tournament, Mutua Madrid Open, gets under way on Monday.

As for Garin, he is scheduled to will lock horns with Marco Cecchinato of Italy in the semi-finals on Saturday.
