Sloane Stephens has pulled out of the US Open 2016 citing a right foot injury. She will now be replaced by Monica Puig as the 32nd seed in the main draw of the women’s singles event.

Stephens, who made the fourth round at Flushing Meadows in 2014, had been going through a rough patch, losing all of her three matches in straight sets since going down in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year.

Her withdrawal has come as a boost for the recently-crowned Olympic champion Puig, who will now have the luxury of dealing with lower-ranked players at least until the third round of the tournament.

Puig is scheduled to square-off against China’s Saisai Zheng in the first round on Monday.
