Timea Bacsinszky has been named the new partner for Martina Hingis to represent Switzerland at the upcoming Rio Olympic Games.

Hingis, the top-ranked doubles player in the world, was originally scheduled to play alongside Belinda Bencic. But, the latter pulled out of the quadrennial event citing scheduling problems.

Besides the women’s doubles, Bacsinszky is also slated to be the solitary Swiss contender in the women’s singles event.

Hingis was also scheduled to join forces with countryman Roger Federer in mixed doubles, before the second-mentioned player also pulled out of the mega-event.

Subsequently, it was considered that she would be paired up with Stanislas Wawrinka, but recent reports claim that the he is likely to give the mixed discipline a miss.

Wawrinka, though, will be the country’s only representative in the men’s singles event.
