Maria Sharapova, who has been serving a 15-month ban for doping, will return to court next month for an exhibition event in Puerto Rico.

The Russian tennis diva took to Twitter to confirm that she will be locking horns with reigning Olympic champion Monica Puig in the inaugural edition of the ‘Monica Puig Invitational’ – an exhibition event scheduled to be held on December 15 at the Coliseo de Puerto in San Juan.

“Excited to join Monica Puig in San Juan 12/15 in an exhibition match at The Coliseo de Puerto Rico,” Sharapova tweeted.

Puig also expressed excitement at popularizing the sport further at home. “I can’t wait to come ‘home’ and bring competitive tennis back to the Island, and I am very thankful for such a great champion in Maria Sharapova to join me in the first edition of this event and play against her!” she wrote on her Facebook page.

“It is going to be an amazing evening full of excitement and entertainment. I hope to see many of you out there and enjoy a highly competitive match between Maria and myself!”

Meanwhile, Sharapova, who last played at the Australian Open in January this year, is slated to make her return in April 2017.
