Veteran Australia tennis player Lleyton Hewitt has been granted one of the eight wildcard entries for the men’s singles event at the prestigious Wimbledon Championships 2015 that is scheduled to commence on June 29 at the All England Club.

Hewitt, a former World No. 1 and a two-time Grand Slam champion, is perhaps gearing up for his Wimbledon swansong as he’s already decided to call a time on his career after the Australian Open in January next year.

The 34-year-old has been floundering to find his feet going. Following his first-round victory (against Ze Zhang) at the Australian Open earlier this season, he has lost out on six consecutive matches, battling a horrendous 1-6 win-loss ratio in 2015.

Consequently, a deeply-plunged ranking of 117 meant that he won’t make it to the main draw solely based upon the rankings. But, a wildcard here has given him a new ray of hope altogether of signing off his illustrious career on a high.

Besides Hewitt, the other men to have gotten a direct entry into the main draw of the tournament include local players Kyle Edmund, James Ward, Liam Broady, and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. Three more players are slated to get a call in the coming days.

For the women’s singles event, Naomi Broady, Johanna Konta, Anett Kontaweit, and Jelena Ostapenko have been confirmed as wildcard entrants. Four names are yet to be corroborated.
