Many tennis players on the ATP World Tour are often seen competing on the court with their wives or girlfriends around in the stands, cheering up for them and bringing in the lady luck. Be it Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or Andy Murray, everyone has their soul-mates supporting them from the crowd. But, is it true for everyone? Not really.

Japan’s Kei Nishikori, who undisputedly had the best season of his life this year, is looking forward to being in a relationship, as he believes that having a sweetheart in the stands would certainly trim down the stress from the sport’s hectic itinerary.

“Tennis players are always on the road so it must help relieve some of the stress for the players who have their partners travelling with them,” Nishikori was quoted as saying by

“It would be nice to have someone like that with me on tour one day,” added Nishikori, who was the runner-up at this year’s United States Open Tennis Championship.

However, family has always been very encouraging for the Japanese star. “I have lots of people who support me – my family, my team, coach, my big sister,” he continued.

“A fan once asked me to marry them [during a match] but I wasn’t confident enough to offer a response.”
