Japanese tennis sensation Kei Nishikori has backed Andy Murray to pip Novak Djokovic at the US Open 2016 that kicks-off on Monday.

Djokovic, the present World No. 1, has had a slight dip in his form of late, whereas, Murray, second only to the former in rankings, has enjoyed some stunning triumphs in recent times. This makes Nishikori consider Murray over Djokovic.

“Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are doing really well,” the seventh-ranked Nishikori told “I think Andy was playing a lot of tournaments from Rio and Cincinnati. I think he can be 100 percent. He has a lot of chance to beat Novak.”

The 26-year-old, who made the finals here in 2014, also opined on the outsiders who are competent to cause difficulty for the favourites.

“I think a couple of young guys, [Milos] Raonic… [Marin] Cilic is back on track again. I think it’s going to be a tough tournament.

Not to forget, Nishikori will be one of the top contenders himself. Seeded sixth, he is scheduled to commence his quest against Germany’s Benjamin Becker on Monday.
