It turned out to be a strenuous day for the seeds at the Katowice Open on Wednesday. But, they ultimately managed to keep the upset bug at bay.

2nd seed Alize Cornet of France rallied from a set down to topple 65th-ranked Polona Hercog 4-6 6-1 6-3 in a grueling second-round battle that went on for just over a couple of hours.

3rd-seed Italian Camila Giorgi was also long-drawn-out to three sets by little-known Pole Magda Linette, before the former pulled off a rusty 6-7 6-2 6-3 triumph in 2 hours and 26 minutes.
