It turned out to be a disappointing day for the spectators at the Katowice Open after their favorite, Agnieszka Radwanska, faced a stunning semifinal defeat from the hands of Italian Camila Giorgi on Saturday.

Giorgi, the No. 3 seed, stood firm on her serve all over, as she broke her opponent’s serve thrice throughout the match to secure a commanding 6-4 6-2 conquest of the Pole in an hour and 15 minutes.

“It was the best match I’ve played so far this week,” Giorgi told the official WTA website afterward. “I felt good. I was playing with confidence. I was really consistent and aggressive, and even if I made mistakes, I stayed focused.”

The Italian now moves on to square-off against 8th seed Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia in the title-clash, who made short work of Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck 6-4 6-1 in the other semifinal encounter.

This will be the first ever meeting between Giorgi and Schmiedlova, when the duo locks horns in Sunday’s finale.
