Top seeds Agnieszka Radwanska and Alize Cornet had contrasting outcomes in their respective quarterfinal match ups at the WTA Katowice Open in Poland on Friday.
While No. 1 seed Radwanska continued to electrify the local throng with a dominating 6-1 6-1 thrashing of 20th-ranked Klara Koukalova of Czech Republic, No. 2 seed Cornet faced a humiliating 6-2 6-0 defeat from the hands of 8th-seeded Anna Schmiedlova in the last-eight stage.
“Everything was working for me today,” a triumphant Radwanska told the WTA official website. “I think I played really solid from the beginning to the end. I didn’t expect that fast a match, but I just played really well today.”
Elsewhere in the quarterfinals, No. 3 seed Camila Giorgi of Italy made light work of lucky loser Elizaveta Kulichkova, pulling off a 6-3 6-4 win in an hour and 21 minutes, whereas unseeded Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck stunned countrywoman Kirsten Flipkens 6-2 6-4.
