Just Days Ahead of Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios Splits with Coach Todd Larkham

It’s been a hard few days for young Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios. Not only did he face an early egress coming into the grass-court season in London last week (lost to Stanislas Wawrinka), but also parted ways with coach Todd Larkham just days ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.

The duo had decided to join hands after Wimbledon last year, when Kyrgios ended his coaching relationship with Simon Rea. Announcing the split, the 20-year-old took it to his official website to put the ‘amicable’ split in plain words.

“I wanted to let you know that Todd Larkham and I have mutually agreed to end our professional relationship,” he wrote. “It’s never an easy decision to end a coaching relationship and to do so prior to the start of a Grand Slam is even more difficult.

“But I feel that this is the right decision for me at this time. I’ve worked with Todd on and off for many years and he has helped me immensely.  I am very grateful for everything Todd has taught me and helped me with, especially during the last year.”

Kyrgios will look to better his last year’s quarter-final run when the action at the renowned All England Club kicks-off from June 29.
