Juan Martin del Potro and Bethanie Mattek-Sands were among the 14 players to have received a wildcard from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for the upcoming US Open 2016.

Argentina’s Del Potro, who won his first and only Grand Slam title here in 2009, was rewarded with a direct entry into the main draw on the back of his silver-medal performance at the Rio Olympics recently.

Rajeev Ram, Frances Tiafoe, Ernesto Escobedo, Bjorn Fratangelo, Michael Mmoh, and Mackenzie McDonald comprise of the other male players to have been drafted directly into the 128-player field.

Meanwhile, Mattek-Sands, who bagged the gold medal in Rio mixed doubles alongside Jack Sock, will lead the American charge along with fellow wildcard-recipients Vania King, Kayla Day, Sofia Kenin, and Danielle Collins.

Besides, two more wildcards are slated to be allotted to two Australian players, as per the USTA’s agreement with Tennis Australia.

The US Open is scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 11 at the renowned Flushing Meadows.
