Defending champions France have suffered an early setback after its best bet, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, pulled out of the Hopman Cup 2015 due to an arm injury.

Tsonga, who joined hands with compatriot Alize Cornet to pull off the title earlier this year, expressed his dejection on being compelled to miss out the tournament.

“We had a great time there earlier this year – the fans and the atmosphere were unbelievable,” Fox Sports quoted Tsonga as saying.

“But a persisting injury to my arm has given me no choice but to withdraw from the event,” he continued.

Following Tsonga’s withdrawal, France have named Benoit Paire as his replacement to play alongside Cornet.

“I hope to be back in Perth soon and wish Benoit and Alize the best of luck. I hope they can win another Hopman Cup trophy for France,” concluded Tsonga.

Meanwhile, Jack Sock is also going to miss the tournament due to an injury. Veteran John Isner will fill in his shoes for the United States of America.

The Hopman Cup kicks-off from January 4 in Perth, Australia.
