Top Indian male singles tennis player, Yuki Bhambri, has pulled out of the upcoming Wimbledon Championships as he failed to recover from an elbow injury in time.

The 144th-ranked Bhambri peaked to career-best 88th position in the world rankings last year after winning three titles on the ATP Challenger tour.

However, an elbow injury struck him soon thereafter that has permitted him to play just 11 matches this year, 7 of which have come on the losing side.

Although the 24-year-old said that the injury is fast healing, it’s far from being over, and that he doesn’t want to risk his chances of partaking at the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Korea, which is scheduled to be held from July 15-17.

“It is definitely getting better, but there is still pain and discomfort,” Bhambri told The Hindu. “I am getting treated and am not sure when I will be back. Davis Cup will be the first event, if I am ready by then.”
