Every time Stanislas Wawrinka has triumphed at the Chennai Open, an ATP 250 event in India, he’s had a flourishing season, in the last two years. His season-opening win here in 2014 saw him pull off his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. In 2015, he defended his crown, and went on to clinch his second major at the French Open which continues to mark his career-best season.

So, naturally, this has to be one of the favourite tournaments for Wawrinka. But, the 30-year-old went a step further in touting the event as his “lucky charm” after confirming his participation for the next year’s event.

Starting next season at #ACO2016 ! I feel at home in Chennai and it’s been my lucky charm. Hope to defend my title and have a great season!” Wawrinka wrote on his official Twitter account following a quarter-final exit (lost to Rafael Nadal) at the Shanghai Masters last week.

Besides being the two-time defending champion in Chennai, Wawrinka had also emerged on the top in 2011, and finished runner-up in the preceding season. Besides, he also paired up with Frenchman Benoit Paire to lift the doubles crown in 2013 here.
