In her quest to shrug off a continued rough patch, Heather Watson has signed up with John-Laffnie de Jager as her new coach.

Watson, who has had a disappointing season so far, had been without a coach since parting ways with Diego Veronelli in December last year.

The 24-year-old revealed that even as they plan to collaborate full-time, the duo will be working on trial basis initially.

“Just putting plans in place… This is the earliest we could start working together,” said the Brit, as quoted by The Guardian.

“He is full-time but this will be a trial period to see how it goes because we are just getting to know each other,” she added.

De Jager, 43, a former South African doubles specialist, is best known for reaching two mixed doubles Grand Slam semi-finals in the late 1990s.
