Led by two-time Grand Slam winner, Andy Murray, Great Britain recorded a confident 2-1 win over defending champions France at the Hopman Cup in Perth Arena on Monday.

Murray opened Great Britain’s account with a comfy win, as he had no issues beating Benoit Paire 6-2, 7-5 and gave Great Britain an early 1-0 lead in the match-up.

Later, Frenchwoman Alize Cornet crushed Heather Watson 6-2, 6-2 to level the honors after the two singles rubbers.

In the mixed doubles decider, the Murray – Watson combination edged past Paire – Cornet duo 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 to clinch the tie, 2-1.

Reflecting on his performance, Murray commented: “I don’t feel perfect yet but it is going to take a few days to get use to these conditions. They are very different, but considering I only got in last night it was a good start.”

Earlier in the day, the United States of America had whitewashed Italy.
