Garbine Muguruza (right) and Maria Sharapova will lock horns in the ‘battle of surfaces’ in an exhibition match in December this year, reports puntodebreak.

The concept involves the two players playing on different surfaces on either sides of the court, with clay surface on one end and grass on the other.

The concept is reminiscent of the 2007 match played between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer that the former went on to win 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (12/10).

The idea was first executed keeping in mind that Nadal and Federer are perhaps the best players on clay and grass, respectively, and it would, thus, be interesting to see who wins through.

The official date and venue for the Sharapova-Muguruza clash is yet to be confirmed.
