French tennis player Benoit Paire has been ruled out of the French tennis squad for allegedly breaching rules during his stay at the Olympic village in Rio de Janerio.

Arnaud Di Pasquale, French Tennis Federation’s technical director, informed that Paire was driven out of the contingent, although he refrained from spilling more beans.

“You cannot flout the rules and the jersey like this,” Di Pasquale was quoted as saying by Bangkok Post. “This is not the first time he has been warned. The France team, it is not an open bar. There are rules to follow.”

Di Pasquale further mentioned that the decision was taken on Monday but was only executed after Paire’s 4-6 6-4 7-6 loss to Italy’s Fabio Fognini in the second-round battle.

Paire, on the other hand, hit back at the Federation, saying: “I’m happy to leave,” he said (as quoted by Sporting Life). “I have a different view of what is happening at the Olympics. I blame the federation for a lot of things.”

Now that Paire is out of the Games, Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon are the only other French men’s singles contenders left in fray, both of whom have already made it to the pre-quarterfinals.
