Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic is set to announce her retirement from tennis, according to multiple media reports.

The Serb, who has been out of action since the last year’s US Open due to injury concerns, has called a ‘special’ press conference on May 13. The date also marks the opening day’s play of the Italian Open in Rome, a tournament she has won twice in her career..

And, according to a report by, the 33-year-old had said in December that she would make her return only when her body felt 100 per cent.

Jankovic, who turned professional back in 2000, won 15 singles and 2 doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Her best appearance at a Grand Slam was a runner-up finish at the 2008 US Open, following which to attained the numero uno position.

Her ranking has fallen to 327 as on April 9.
