Canadians Eugenie Bouchard and Vasek Pospisil pulled off stunning performances to clinch an upset conquest of the United States of America at the Hopman Cup on Tuesday.

Bouchard gave Canada an early lead by dominating top-ranked Serena Williams 6-2, 6-1. Interestingly, this was her first ever career-win over the American powerhouse.

“It’s a good way to start the year,” a thrilled Bouchard was quoted as saying by “I really want to start the season strong and matches like this help.”

Later, Vasek Pospisil sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead for Canada after beating lanky American John Isner 6-3, 7-6 in the men’s singles rubber.

“I am just really happy to get that win for Eugenie,” Pospisil also expressed his ecstasy. “She played a great match for me.”

However, the American duo managed to salvage pride by winning the mixed doubles rubber 6-3, 7-5.
