Rafael Nadal suffered a stunning first-round defeat from the hands of German qualifier Michael Berrer at the ATP 250 Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2015 in Doha on Tuesday.

The second-seeded Spaniard started off the match by winning the first set 6-1, but let off the hook by losing the rest 3-6, 4-6 to get knocked out of the tournament.

“He played well,” Nadal told of Berrer, as quoted by the ATP World Tour. “I was playing with more nerves than usual,” he continued.

“I knew that winning a couple of matches here will help me, so that makes me play a little bit more under more tension.”

Meanwhile, top seed Novak Djokovic had a swift sailing to the second round with a 6-2, 6-1triumph over compatriot Dusan Lajovic.
