Crash, Bang, Wallop! Stanislas Wawrinka Dismantles His Racket at US Open

Stanislas Wawrinka had a topsy-turvy day in the office as he overcame a late blip to move on to the quarter-finals of the US Open 2016 on Monday.

Up against Ukrainian journeyman Illya Marchenko, Wawrinka managed a 6-4 6-1 6-7 6-3 victory, but not without a bit of drama in the middle.

Just when the Swiss No. 3 seed appeared well on course to seal the battle in straight sets, Marchenko staged a stellar fightback by not only taking the third set, but also cruising ahead on the outset of the fourth.

A visibly frustrated Wawrinka, then, banged his racket, took it up to knee-break it before hurling it away in rage. Pretty unusual from Wawrinka, isn’t it?

Moving on, he is scheduled to cross the swords with former champion Juan Martin del Potro in what promises to be a blockbuster quarter-final encounter.
