Abel Sanchez, the trainer of unified world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, believes that Liam ‘Beefy Smith stands a chance to upset Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez when the two lock horns for the WBO light-middleweight title next month.

Despite being the challenger for the belt, Canelo (47-1-1) is expected to make light work of a relatively-inexperienced Smith (23-0-1). However, Sanchez insists that title-holder can upset the odds against him.

“I think it’s a very competitive fight,” Sanchez was quoted as saying by boxingnews24. “Liam Smith is a big guy, he’s a durable guy. He’s not as talented as Canelo. Canelo should win the fight, but I think Liam Smith will scare him.”

He continued: “I think Liam Smith has nothing to lose. Liam Smith is bigger than Canelo. So, Liam Smith could scare him. Does he beat him? Maybe not, but I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Canelo will be the fourth challenger for Smith’s title, who has knocked out all of his three previous contenders. The bout is scheduled to be held on September 17 at the AT&T stadium in Texas, USA.
