Croatian tennis player Borna Coric is set to undergo a knee surgery, putting his participation for the rest of the season in doubt.

Coric has been troubled with tendon inflammation in his right knee that forced him to miss the American hard-court swing.

The 19-year-old retired midway through the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters before pulling out of his first-round match at the US Open earlier this year.

The surgery implies that Coric might well miss the Davis Cup final against Argentina, which is scheduled to be held from November 25-27.

Croatian selector Zeljko Krajan, however, is optimistic of Coric recovering well in time for the all-important tie. “It is too early, but I believe the he will do every possible thing to recover [for Davis Cup final]. So I’m not going to exclude him yet,” he said.

Should Coric fail to make the cut, ATP No. 20 Ivo Karlovic will play the other singles rubber alongside No. 11 Marin Cilic.
