India’s ace doubles tennis player, Leander Paes, divulged that he took delivery of some backhand tips from Switzerland’s two-time Grand Slam champion, Stanislas Wawrinka, when the two joined forces to play doubles together last year.

In an interview with Sportstar, the 42-year-old Paes revealed that it was he who asked Wawrinka if they could pair up, as they went onto the court for the first time in concert at the Paris Masters 2014, before also teaming up for Cincinnati in 2015.

Stating that he continually sought coaching tips on his backhand from Wawrinka – who is known for his lethal one-handed backhand – Paes divulged that he could actually see the difference now.

“When we played those two tournaments, during practice sessions, all that I kept asking Stan was the right questions on his backhand, and I kept working on it,” said Paes. “Actually, during those two weeks, he was coaching me on the backhand side.

“(Later) when I played, I realised my backhand has improved so much that I was finding everyone coming to my forehand only, which, you know, is actually my strength.”
