Australian Open 2015 – Sharapova Teaches Harsh Lesson to Bouchard; Makarova Stuns Halep to Reach SFs
No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova and No. 10 seed Ekaterina Makarova set up an all-Russian semifinal at the Australian Open 2015, following their respective wins in the last-eight stage on Tuesday.
Sharapova kept the upset bug at bay, showing no mercy en route her 6-3 6-2 thrashing of her seventh-seeded Canadian counterpart at the Rod Laver Arena. The Russian won a commendable 84 per cent of her first-serve points and broke Bouchard four times to emerge victorious in a one-sided affair.
Next up, she meets countrywoman Makarova in the last-four stage, who pulled off a major upset by getting the better of 3rd seed Simona Halep of Romania, 6-4 6-0.
H2H: Sharapova 5 – 0 Makarova
Going by their head-to-head record, Sharapova should continue her smooth sailing to the finals, but Makarova will look to clinch her first ever win against the former when the duo meet for the sixth time in the semifinals.
