Unlike the men’s singles event – where 2nd seed Roger Federer made a shocking exit – the women’s singles category didn’t witness any major casualty as the top seeds smoothly progressed to the fourth round of the Australian Open 2015 on Friday.

2nd seed Maria Sharapova had a blazing third-round encounter, where she schooled 31st seed Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan. The fancied Russian needed just over one an hour to clinch a humiliating 6-1 6-1 triumph at the infamous Rod Laver Arena.

3rd Simona Halep of Romania also had a downy sailing to the round of 16 after overcoming American journeywoman Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-4 7-5 at the Margaret Court Arena.

7th seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada survived a tricky first set against Spain’s Caroline Garcia before dominating her way to a 7-5 6-0 triumph in the third-round encounter that lasted for an hour and 24 minutes.
