Top seed Novak Djokovic overcame a stiff battle from Spanish journeyman Fernando Verdasco to storm into the fourth round of the Australian Open 2015 on Saturday.

The top-ranked Serb survived a close first set in a tie-breaker to eventually pull off a 7-6 6-3 6-4 conquest of his veteran counterpart at the infamous Rod Laver Arena.

Meanwhile, defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka also cruised into the last 16 stage with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 win over Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen.

Not only did the Swiss star win a commendable 90 per cent of his first-serve points, but also scored 55 winners against 18 from his opponent.

“I’m feeling good,” Wawrinka commented afterwards. “I’m feeling great. I’m happy the way I’m playing. To get to the second week again, it’s great. So far everything is good for me.”

Meanwhile, other seeds Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, and Feliciano Lopez also advanced to the fourth round Down Under.
