Former British tennis player Tim Henman backed countryman Andy Murray to defend his gold medal at the ongoing Rio Olympic Games after he successfully made it to the quarter-finals of the men’s singles event on Thursday.

Murray, who took home the yellow metal at London 2012, has arguably been in the form of his life this year. The World No. 2 hasn’t lost a match since going down to the top-ranked Novak Djokovic in the Roland Garros final.

His 15-match winning – which comprises of the recent Wimbledon triumph – makes Henman tip Murray for another golden finish.

“He [Murray] needs to be on his guard and maintain the levels of performance that he has shown in the last few months,” Henman was quoted as saying by Ealing Times.

He added: “And if he does that then he has a great chance of defending his title – I think he will. If he does that then it would be huge – it would be a continuation of current form.”

Murray will look to inch closer in his quest of a podium finish when he crosses the swords with World No. 22 Steve Johnson of the United States for a place in the last-four stage on Friday.
