World No. 1 Novak Djokovic may have extended his supremacy at the core of rankings after a fruitful season this year, but the second-ranked Andy Murray could surpass him to take the numero uno position next season, believes Stanislas Wawrinka.

Speaking exclusively to TalkSport, the fourth-ranked Wawrinka stated that although Djokovic had a great season that made him look a player from another level altogether, there’s always a chance that the same player might not be able to subsist the momentum.

“He (Murray) is number two so he is really close and he has won two Grand Slams and some big tournaments on clay courts,” Wawrinka said, after opining that the Brit can overtake his Serbian counterpart. “Novak has been amazing and at a different level this year, but we will see because every year there is a chance to change that,” he added.

Djokovic pulled off three Grand Slam titles this year and winded-up the season with an incredible 79-5 record that helped him amplify his kitty with over 15,000 points, far more than Andy Murray (8,470), Roger Federer (7,340), and Stanislas Wawrinka (6,500).
