Ace American tennis player Venus Williams suffered a stunning first-round toppling from the hands of countrywoman Sloane Stephens at the prestigious French Open 2015.

Consequently, the 34-year-old looked highly dejected with her loss, which was evident when she decided to skip the post-match press conference.

Instead, she served up a small statement soon thereafter. “When you arrive at any tournament you hope you will have a chance to work your way into the event, but I didn’t have that opportunity. She just played better than me today,” Williams was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

It, however, didn’t go down well with the tournament organizers, who decided to impose a fine of $3,000, as it’s mandatory for a player to face the press after their outings, irrespective of the results that ensue

This was not the first time that the former World No. 1 was shown the door in the opening round, as she has been eliminated as many as five times before.
