Former top junior tennis player CiCi Bellis has decided to turn professional after she signed-up with leading global management company, IMG.

Bellis took to her official Twitter account to confirm the news, thereby implying that she would give up on playing full-time for Stanford University.

“I just think I’m really confident in my tennis and confident that I’m able to compete at the WTA level consistently now,” she told the WTA website.

“I want to be doing it for a really long time and I think my game and my body is ready for it now.”

Bellis first came into the limelight following her maiden appearance at the US Open 2014, where – as a 15-year-old – she upset World No. 13 Dominika Cibulkovain in the tournament opener.

The 17-year-old also recorded her best-ever finish at a Grand Slam in the recently-concluded US Open 2016, where she made it to the third round before losing to eventual champion Angelique Kerber.

Bellis, ranked 120th in the world, is currently competing in Quebec City. Having gotten off to a winning start, she is scheduled to take on compatriot Danielle Lao for a place in the quarter-finals.
