The top-ranked doubles pairing of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis have been making waves of late with their 36-match winning streak. The duo has not tasted a defeat ever since pulling off the US Open title last year; such has been their dominance on court.

However, there’s something more for the Indo-Swiss twosome to lay their hands upon: the Roland Garros trophy. Yes, that may not be their favorite surface – as Mirza herself corroborates – but they appear well-equipped to pursue their “toughest challenge”.

“I think that the French Open is something that’ll be challenging on many levels,” Mirza told NewsX. “But most importantly, it is not our best surface. So all in all, that’ll be the toughest part to overcome because for both of us the clay is not a favourite surface,” she admitted.

“But, having said that, we’ll try and come up with what we can and try and win it. It’s a long way from here, but we’ll try our best when we get there.”

The 29-year-old, who is best known for her booming forehand, further spoke on what makes her do well along with Hingis.

“We consolidate other each other’s strength, we make up for each other’s weaknesses, get along on and off the court, but I think most importantly we have a lot of strengths together,” she said.
