On Friday, Alexander Zverev had to overcome some doubts both on and off the court.

The German star came back from one-set-down-to-two before prevailing 6-4 5-7 6-7 6-1 6-2 over Taylor Fritz of the United States to advance to the third round of Wimbledon.

And, the story was hardly any different in the post-match press conference as. “Are you a masochist?” was the first question asked to Zverev, much to his astonishment.

“A masochist? What’s a masochist? I don’t know what a masochist is,” he replied with a chuckle.

Oxford dictionary defines the word masochist in general terms as a “person who enjoys an activity that appears to be painful or tedious.”

When told the meaning of the word in brief, Zverev was quick to get back with a “no.”

“I won the fourth and fifth sets easily. [So] it was very easy.”

The 4th seed is scheduled to lock horns with Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis next. The path, thereafter, won’t be easy for Zverev as he could bump into either Nick Kyrgios or Kei Nishikori in the fourth round.

A win in last 16 could see him potentially face 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
