Eugenie Bouchard loves to make the headlines even when she’s away from the court, it seems.

The Canadian tennis player, who is perhaps better known for her good looks, was criticized for posting a controversial tweet on Novak Djokovic’s quarter-final opponent at the French Open.

Italy’s Marco Cecchinato had never gone past the first round at any of his four previous Grand Slam appearances. But he has already made it to the semi-finals on the Parisian clay, thanks to an upset win over Djokovic, a former world No. 1 and a 12-time Major winner, on Tuesday.

“Who is this guy that Djokovic is playing?” Bouchard, a former world No. 5 who has plummeted to No. 164, wrote to her 1.71 million followers.

And Twitterati was quick to take offence. “His rank’s is better than your rank. The real question is who are you?” one comment read.

“This guy has actually much better rank than you. He is world no.72 while you are outside 160. That was disrespectful,” another one read.

However, Bouchard was quick to raise her point.

“Wow guys my tweet was not meant in disrespect, I was genuinely asking cuz I had never heard of him and he was in quarters (now semis) of a slam. Also I put a clapping emoji which is positive btw!” she wrote.

“Also your incessant need to compare/judge people is whack. I was talking about someone I saw on tv and you instantly compare that person to me, our rankings/careers etc.

“Like it has nothing to do with me. I’m just chillin watching some great tennis over here.”
