Serena Williams shut down a sexist question from a journalist after pulling a plug over her French Open campaign due to an arm injury.

During her press conference, Serena encountered a series of awkward questions from a journalist, who went on to call her ‘baby’.

“I know you want to get back to Olympia, work with me here, please,” the journalist said.

“Work with me?” Serena replied with a grin.

“We are in this together, baby.”

“No, we are not. You are not going home to a screaming baby.”

This wasn’t the end of the bizarre exchange. The journalist came up with a sexist question involving her traditional rival Maria Sharapova, against whom she was supposed to play in the fourth round on Monday.

“I have been waiting about 14 years to ask you this question. After the 2004 Wimbledon match with Maria, I had the opportunity to interview Donald Trump on his LA golf course, and he said that Maria’s shoulders were incredibly alluring and then he came up with this incredible analysis: that you were intimidated by her super model good looks. My question is: have you ever been intimidated by anyone else on a tennis court, and what are your thoughts about that occurrence?” the question read.

Serena was quick to steer clear of the sexist question in style. “I honestly don’t have any thoughts about that. I can’t say I have been intimated by anyone. That’s all. That’s it,” she said.

Her husband Alexis Ohanian later took to Twitter to show his displeasure. “Waited 14 years… for this? Pro-top: wait at least another 14 more years before asking another question,” he wrote.

The journalist, however, publicly apologized on social media.
