Novak Djokovic and Roberto Bautista Agut have revealed the warm words they exchanged at the net after their French Open third-round match on Friday.

Just one week before the Parisian Slam, Agut lost his mother but decided not to pull out of the season’s second Major in honour of his late parent.

Following his 6-4 6-7 7-6 6-2 win over Agut, Djokovic had some words of comfort on offer.

“I like Roberto,” the Serb said of the world No. 13. “We’ve been good since he got to the circuit. We have a lot of respect and appreciation for each other.

“And we exchanged a few words. I tried to give him some support. I don’t know if I should talk about it and I don’t know what you know about it.

“But he’s having a hard time with his family.”

Agut, too, spoke about it during the press conference. “We exchanged warm words at the end of the meeting. It is always a pleasure to play against Djokovic,” the Spaniard said.

“We’ve played big dates, and I’ve lost more than I’ve won, unfortunately. But it’s always good to play against him.”

Djokovic will face another Spaniard, this time Fernando Verdasco, in fourth round on Sunday.
