Kyle Edmund and Joao Sousa made the waves, quite literally!

The tennis players enjoyed a session of surfing along with professional surfer Frederico Morais ahead of participating at this week’s Estoril Open, an ATP 250 event in Portugal.

Under Morais’ guidance, the duo rode the waves on a surfboard, but had differing reactions.

“It’s not easy to get the time to do this kind of thing normally,” Sousa was quoted as saying. “(Frederico) gave us some tips to make it a little bit easier. But I’m not sure our physical condition is perfect for this kind of sport.”

Edmund appeared more upbeat before trying his hand. “I’ve never surfed before, only done stuff like jet-skis in the water before. So it’s my first time, but I’ve got no excuses because I’ve got a pretty good instructor.

“I’m pretty good with adventure sports. I like motor-biking, and loved the jet-skiing.”

Besides, they also visited the Nova School of Business and Economics, where they played a game of mini-tennis.

Meanwhile, the duo will now head back to Estoril clay courts for the main event. While Edmund, the No. 3 seed, has a bye in the first round, local hope Sousa is scheduled to face 8th seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia first up.
