Rafael Nadal has revealed Andy Murray called him up a couple of weeks back to seek some advice as the British star continues to recover from an elbow injury.

“I saw him in Melbourne, and I spoke with him with the phone two weeks ago,” Nadal said following his 6-0 6-2 demolition of Dominic Thiem at the Monte Carlo Masters.

He, however, chose not to spill the beans on their conversation. “I have been in Mallorca. He asked me about things. I don’t want to tell you about the things that we talk because will not be fair for him, and I will not feel comfortable with it.

“But, yes, I tell him the things that I think worked for me. Then, of course, he has his group and he will decide.”

Nadal, a 16-time Grand Slam champion, further suggested that Murray might not be back to winning ways straight upon his return, but will certainly get better with time.

“After a long period, maybe he will not be back and winning first week, but he will not forget how to play tennis. He knows that, and everybody knows that. If he is healthy, he will be back in a position to fight for the most important things.”

Meanwhile, Nadal, who is yet to drop a set this clay season, is scheduled to cross the swords with Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the final. Should he advance, he will meet either Alexander Zverev of Germany of Japan’s Kei Nishikori.
