Alexnader Zverev has landed himself in soup after appearing to have spat in direction of a spectator at the Monte Carlo Masters.

During his third-round match against fellow German Jan-Lennard Struff on Thursday, Zverev kicked an advertising board on court before breaking into an argument with chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani over it.

“Kokkinakis broke his knee cap when he fell on one of those,” a visibly furios Zverev said, citing example of a recent incident of Australian player Thanasi Kokkinakis falling off and injuring his knee due to an advertising board.

And then, the spitting thing followed, much to the dismay of former British No. 1 Annabel Croft.

“It was a very angry match from him all the way through and spitting the way that he did is pretty disgusting,” Croft told Sky Sports.

She added: “It shouldn’t be allowed and I’m sure he will get funded or there will be some sort of repercussion for that. He shouldn’t have done it.”

Meanwhile, Zverev is already through to the semi-finals, where he’s scheduled to face off against Japanese veteran Kei Nishikori.
