Novak Djokovic is known for his jovial nature and good sense of humour. However, that wasn’t the case on Friday as he crashed out of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Djokovic, playing just his fourth tournament this season after undergoing an elbow surgery last year, squandered one-set advantage to go down 6-7 6-2 6-3 to Austria’s Dominic Thiem.

And, the frustration was clearly evident on the Serb’s face as he snubbed a handshake with chair umpire Carlos Bernardes at the end of the match.

The reason? According to, Bernandes had warned Djokovic to quicken up during one of his service games.

Consequently, Djokovic did speed up, only to lose that particular service game.

This is not the first time that the two have been at loggerheads on court. At the 2016 Shanghai Masters, Bernandes served up a warning to Djokovic for taking an extended break while changing his shirt, which didn’t go down well with the 12-time Grand Slam champion.
