Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard got her first lesson of cricket when she met Australian cricketer George Bailey in Tasmania on Sunday.

Bouchard, who is current Down Under for this week’s Hobart International and the Australian Open (starting next week), took some time off her scheduled as she also hit the court with Bailey.

Bailey, the captains the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, later gifted Bouchard a jersey and a Gray Nicholls bat.

“Proud new owner of a cricket bat! Have no idea what to do with it, as per the confusion on my face. Thanks to @HurricanesBBL & George for the bat and jersey and quick swing lesson,” she wrote on her official Twitter handle.

Bailey, meanwhile, impressed Bouchard with his tennis skills.

“I was told this would be an easy hit, and he plays great. I was starting to sweat. He said he used to play and I could tell. He’s a good leftie. It was pretty impressive,” she said, as quoted by TheMercury.

Talking of his love for tennis, Bailey said: “I love my tennis. It’s one of the things I’m looking forward to getting back into once cricket finishes,” he said.
