In perhaps the biggest takeaway for Japan against Switzerland, Naomi Osaka aced Roger Federer during their Hopman Cup tie on Saturday night.

It happened during the third game of the mixed doubles tie, when Osaka – serving from the deuce court – fired a serve wide on the right of Federer, who failed to make any contact with the out-swinging ball.

No wonder, Osaka celebrated by pumping both her fists in the air before being congratulated by her doubles partner Yuichi Sugita.

On the other hand, Federer – visibly impressed by the serve – wore a wry smile on his face.

The ace, though, couldn’t save Japan from a whitewash as Federer, along with Belinda Bencic, registered a 2-4 4-1 4-3 win over Osaka and Sugita to seal the tie 3-0.

Earlier, Federer had beaten Sugita 6-4 6-3 before Bencic overcame Osaka 7-5 6-3 in singles fixtures.
