Jack Sock got his new season off to a winning start. The American world No. 8 clinched a 6-4 1-6 6-3 win over Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the Hopman Cup opener on Saturday.

Despite giving his team an early lead, not everything went his way. During third game of the first set, Sock unleashed a serve so terribly that it missed the t-line mark by miles (excuse the exaggeration).

Was it one of the worst serves ever?

Sock, however, recovered well to win the tie before his compatriot Coco Vandeweghe beat Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 6-3 to hand USA an unassailable lead.

In the mixed doubles rubber, Khachanov and Pavlyuchenkova paired up to avert a whitewash, registering a 3-4 4-1 4-2 win over Sock and Vandeweghe.
