Victoria Azarenka will be making her comeback at the ASB Classic, a WTA International event in Auckland, the Belarusian tennis star has announced.

Azarenka, a former world No. 1 and a two-time Australian Open champion, hasn’t competed since losing in the fourth round (to Simona Halep) at Wimbledon this year due to custody issues with her estranged boyfriend Billy McKeague over their son Leo.

However, the 28-year-old has not only confirmed her return in the first week of January, but has also set her eyes upon reclaiming the numero uno position and competing at the Grand Slams.

“I am very much looking forward to getting back on the court to compete in January and I can’t think of a better place to start the 2018 season than in Auckland,” Azarenka was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.

“I’ve worked extremely hard with my team over the last few months and continue to do so for the new season, and with my goal in mind to get back to world No. 1 and compete for Grand Slam titles.”

The ASB Classic is scheduled to run from January 1-6.
