German tennis player Tatjana Maria is seeking legal aid following her controversial defeat to Alize Cornet of France that saw her crash out of the prestigious Roland Garros 2016 on Thursday.

Maria had accused Cornet of faking injury and violating rules after she started to cramp up in the decisive set and called upon her physio midway through the set – something which goes against the rules.

“We want this (legal action) because it was simply not fair in the match. I think that’s important for the sport. It’s not about the defeat. I accept that,” Sky Sports quoted Maria, who lost 3-6, 7-6, 4-6 in the second round.

Talking about the backing that she has received from her fellow tennis players, the 28-year-old added: “Even French players have told me that they are behind me. That was nice to hear, because the defeat hurt.”

Maria, however, confessed that she’s not sure whom to take action against – whether the tournament, WTA, or the ITF.
